The Deutsche Internationale Schule Pretoria leads to the International German Abitur, combined with the South African National Senior Certificate (NSC). A purely English-language NSC in combination with the German Language Diploma (DSDII) is also possible.
The NSC is offered by the South African Independent Examinations Board (IEB) – all degrees lead to South African and German university eligibility. Our park-like premises with generously designed school buildings and extensive sports facilities offer the opportunity for a broad development of our learners from Crèche to Senior High School.
At the DSP children have the opportunity to learn German, the most widely spoken mother tongue in Europe (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg). The German language ability and our highly rated school leaving certificate, the Abitur or graduation with the NSC and a German language diploma enables learners to study throughout Europe.
Founded in 1899, the DSP bears the seal of an excellent German school abroad. The excellence of our teaching staff is the guarantee for a world-class, nurturing, safe, learning environment.
Our learners benefit from global networking and our partnerships with German companies and institutions, our community of excellence in education, our diversity, crossing borders, embracing the freedom of expression and the global reach of our alumni who have found careers in South Africa and Europe via the DSP.
In Crèche and in Kindergarten, children are holistically supported in their development by qualified educators.
The Kindergarten works closely with the Primary School to ensure a successful transition from Kindergarten to Grade R. Lessons take place in modern and open forms of teaching. Aligned with the subject teacher principle, the foundations for competencies in foreign languages, natural sciences, social sciences and music are laid and further developed. Science, sports and the arts are focal points at the Deutsche Internationale Schule Pretoria. In Primary School, learners acquire foreign language skills in English or German either at home language or second language level.
In Secondary School I (Grades 5–9), there is close cooperation with the teachers of the German and English-speaking classes in jointly taught subjects and integrated learning groups. In the German classes, the Secondary School I can be completed with a Hauptschule certificate (Grade 9) or a Realschule certificate (Grade 10).
With regard to the Secondary School II (Grades 10–12), learners opt at the end of Grade 9 for a Kombiabitur or the South African National Senior Certificate (NSC). The lessons in the Kombiabitur are mainly held in German and lead to a dual qualification (International German sAbitur and NSC). This qualification entitles the holder to study in Germany. In the NSC, learners are prepared in English for the examination at the end of Grade 12. The German Language Diploma Level II, which is also examined at the Deutsche Internationale Schule Pretoria, entitles learners to take up studies in Germany.
The DSP embodies the progressive, German education system through highly motivated and qualified teachers, who prepare our learners for a global future.
The DSP team is a group of dedicated educators and school administrators who are passionate about providing a high-quality education to our learners. Together, we are a highly motivated and qualified team, committed to preparing our learners for a successful and global future.
